..studies..

thankyou for all the feedback and opinions about my last piece.
positive or negative, i appreciate them both.
reading these comments gives me a different perspective and makes me want to try something new.

so ive been having some fun doing these small 'studies'.
i tried to be more loose with the marks,
and i must say, i enjoyed it immensely!
no matter the outcome, the process was really refreshing.

both are 6"x8".

uhhh, so these are like for sale, right? *eye brow waggle*
these are so interesting. Obviously, your style is evident, but they still have a different look, like you said, with the loose marks. I think they're both amazing.
i also really liked seeing the step-by-step photos.

May i ask what kind of pencil crayons you're using? They're beautiful!
Your work is stunning and you're my idol. Really. :))

I like the sketchiness of these works! The mood is very different from your other work, but it's still really pleasant to look at and the overall feeling is still... yours. For lack of a better term. Anyway, I wouldn't be sad if you did more of these. ;)

Also, I echo the person a few comments back who asked if these are for sale, LOL. I'm sure I can't afford it, but the one of the boy would have a very good home with me. ;D

i love the one with the girl, it reminds me of your earlier style like the girl in front of a burning forest, i love that style!

i think that's my all time favourite of your works! there is so much feeling in her expression and i love the colours of the forest.

These are AMAZING. Oh god, I wish you'd sell prints of these, I'd buy both for sure. I'm completely in love with the guy's one. :O

So gorgeous!
I love looking at your process, these step by step pictures are just fantastic.
I'm curious, do you put like a seal or a varnish on your paintings so they dont smear? I know I have to use a spray for my charcoals but I've never tried charcoal on wood before.

I like the boy, especially! These feel much rawer with your linework, it's a cool change :) I am really drawn to the unfinished white crosshatching.

I love the unfinished stage for the boy the most, actually.

the girl reminds me of a film shot where the girl would be a still center and the background is swirling around her.. like someone is spinning the world with her as the axis, especially with the wood grain going horizontally.. it gives it more 'spin' motion (imo, of course). really cool.

Reminds me of Kanevsky a little... the semi-arbitraryish red marks. :) Have you tried stand oil/linseed oil as a medium, to get juicy globs?

it's got to be refreshing to not worry quite as much about precision... i've got to drag out the ol' charcoal, myself, sometime soon.

i dig 'em.

also, the 2nd one reminds me a bit of an artist named Lisa Yuskavage... at least, some stuff of hers I remember seeing in a magazine when i was in school (can't find a good link)

I'm not sure I could ever dislike your work, and so for that purpose I am a terrible critic... these are wonderful to me, and it's great to see you experimenting. It's great that we're able to see your works in progress, too, and the finished pieces... all very inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing your work, it really means a lot. :)
